If you have never cruised on the Great Lakes, you may not appreciate the conditions in which Four Winns tests their boats. Steep chop that kicks up quickly in light air, makes for good conditions to find out what needs to be fixed, tightened and re-designed. After 30 years of building boats, Four Winns has developed easy riding, Stable Vee, hulls that perform in all conditions. This Four Winns was built to last. Stainless steel hardware, copper wiring with tin coating for salt water protection, and high quality resins will keep your maintenance to a minimum for years to come.As you first step aboard, you notice the flex teak system which adds a touch of elegance and your bare feet will appreciate it. There is good stowage in a large locker. Shore cords connect aft and are hidden away for a clean look. A folding ladder is tucked away and it is longer than normal for easy swimmer access. There is a cockpit shower, stereo control and a transom door. The flex teak decking carries into the roomy cockpit. To starboard is a U-shaped setee, with removeable table, that will seat a bunch and doubles as a sun lounge with table removed. Oppisite the lounge is a wet bar with stowage below. Up one step and to port is a two person lounge and to starboard, twin helm seats with flip up bolsters. There is loads of storage under most of the seating. The helm is well laid out by the ergonomic team at Four Winns. The helm seat is adjustable. The Clarion stereo has a remote on the bridge. Faria gauges are well designed and placed for easy view. Single lever controls are well placed for easy docking while standing for best visibility. Major electrical switches are conveniently placed by the wheel and lesser used items like the are not cluttering up you view of engine gauges, but slightly off to the outboard side. Front and center is the Garmin 198C sounder and chart plotter and Danforth compass. Trim tab controls are to starboard and drive controls are on the shifter. The walk through windshield leads to the long foredeck or you can choose the walk around route that offers pretty good access for a 31 footer. Three deck hatches allow for great ventilation and good lighting down below. A molded in toe rail and one piece welded rail will make for confidence when going forward. An anchor line locker forward keeps things neat when underway.The cabin entry is a sliding door that saves pace and locks open and closed for safety. The entry steps are unique and make a turn to starboard to save space. To port is a large couch with drop leaf table. Forward is a large vee berth that will sleep two adults. Under the berth is a dedicated storage spot for the salon table. There is a hanging locker and several drawers for the forward berthing area. Back aft is a mid cabin that has a U-shaped couch for day use and converts to a queen berth in the evening. There is a privacy curtain for the aft stateroom.The galley is on the starboard side and has microwave oven, Coffee maker, two burner cook top, and plenty of stowage. The hot and cold sink has an insert for more counter space. A flat screen TV with pivoting mount, is secured above the cook top. Below the counter is more storage and electric refridgerator. Just forward of the galley is a private head with vanity, stand up shower, electric head and opening port light. The V318 is powered by a pair of Volvo 5.7 Litre engines coupled to Volvo duoprop out drives. These are accessed through an electric hatch opening in the cockpit. All of the ships systems are easily accessed and well laid out. A 5Kw Kohler generator will provide plenty of power for all shipboard requirements.
