27' ft Catalina 27

Project Boat...
Nice little Catalina in need of engine overhaul or new re-power!

”Are you getting your dream’s worth?” asks Catalina. For over thirty years Catalina Yachts has unwavering dedication to building well designed, durable, family oriented boats that are the best value. Catalina Yachts are famous for their high volume interiors, efficient and spacious family-sized cockpits, and easily managed rigs offering excellent performance. After the success of the first model, the Catalina 22, Catalina Yachts introduced the Catalina 27, designed by Frank Butler and Bob Finch, as the second model in production. The Catalina 27 came with two interior layouts, and this one is the dinette model with the aft galley.

Accommodations: Overnight accommodations are provided for six passengers in four berths. The layout includes forward V-berth cabin, main saloon, portside galley, and starboard storm berth. The forward V-berth cabin also has access to chain locker, under-berth stowage compartments, side-berth shelves, starboard head compartment (marine toilet, shelf, mirror, and toilet paper holder) and port side cabinet with refrigerator. The main salon includes convertible double berth/dinette, custom table top with map (San Diego to Santa Rosa Island), under-dinette stowage compartments, built-in utensil drawer, over-dinette storage cabinet, and portside settee. Other interior features include overhead escape hatch forward, six windows, fabric covered cushions, easy-to-clean fiberglass sole, teak trim, five 12-volt light fixtures, 110-volt light fixtures, and lockable companionway door.

Galley Equipment: Galley equipment includes stainless steel sink, pump water, Welbilt refrigerator, Homestrand 406 alcohol/electric two-burner stove with stainless steel cover, ice box, three utensil drawers, and cupboard.

Electronic and Navigational Gear: The cockpit helm is equipped with key-start ignition, forward/reverse throttle set, gauges, and tiller steering. Electronic and navigational gear includes Uniden MC535 VHF marine radio, Ritchie compass, Maxxima AM/FM/Cassette Marine stereo, two Maxxima speakers, Signet knot meter, Lev-O-Gage level meter, and USCG standard running lights.

Electrical/Gas/Plumbing: The boat is equipped with both 12-volt and 110-volt electrical system. Electrical features include two marine batteries, shore power inlet, electrical panel in companionway with fuses, and Perko battery isolator switch.

Water systems include pump cold water, 18-gallon freshwater tank, and 500 GPH bilge pump.

Hull and Deck Gear (Sails/Rigging): The boat is best described as a sloop rigged, fin keel racer/cruiser with deck stepped mast and 2,650-lb. ballast. The hull is built of fiberglass, and the decks are fiberglass with non-skid surfacing. Deck fixtures include stainless steel bow rail, single life lines, stainless steel cockpit rail, teak grab rails over cabin, stainless steel swim ladder, four stainless steel deck cleats, and three cockpit lazarettos. Sail inventory includes mainsail and roller-furling jib. Total sail area is 340 square feet. Ground tackle includes two #16 Asahi two-speed winches, #8 Harken winch, and small winch. Anchor gear includes two anchors, chain, rode, stainless steel bow roller, bow chain locker, stainless steel hawse pipe, and stainless steel stern roller. Safety gear includes one PFD, one fire extinguisher, docking line, five fenders, and U-shaped life ring. Canvas inventory includes two winch covers, tiller cover, two electronics covers, and mainsail cover. The boat was last hauled out for inspection, service, and bottom paint in September 2005. Other items serviced during haulout included new bronze thru hulls, new packing gland/cutlass bearing/shaft/pedro hose, new batteries, and new fuel lines. Bottom job and all service work were completed by Channel Islands Boatyard.

Equipment/Engine Details:

Engine Details: The auxiliary power package, 20 horsepower Universal gasoline inboard engine, is not serviceable and in need of a major overhaul. Other engine features include 20-gallon fuel tank. It might be best to repower with outboard.

Remarks: Out-of-town owner is offering this boat as a project boat since the engine is not in service. This might be a good deal for someone who is mechanically inclined or who wants to choose his own motor to install. Let’s make a deal!
