The Morgan Out Island 41 footer was one of the world’s most popular cruising and heavily used charter vessels for many years during the seventies and early eighties. They were all extremely well designed and heavy built as mentioned by the sailboat industry. From its hand laid hull and deck to the well-thought-out spacious interior and extensive storage these Blue-Water Cruisers are still a sound starting point when looking for a real world cruiser.
This yacht is well equipped and ready for a new adventure with its next owner. She will give her next captain many years of additional pleasure and entertainment.
Accommodations: Overnight accommodations are provided for eight passengers in five berths. Interior headroom is 6’ 4½“. Interior layout includes forward stateroom, forward head, main saloon, starboard galley, port nav station, and aft stateroom with en suite head. The forward stateroom is equipped with two single berths, under-berth storage cabinet, three under-berth drawers, two reading lamps, overhead sunlight/escape hatch, access to chain locker, velour covered cushions, and privacy door. Aft of forward stateroom are starboard head and portside passageway storage compartment. The forward head is equipped with marine toilet, stainless steel sink, hot and cold pressure water, handheld shower, vanity with storage cabinet, starboard cabinet with decorative wall paper, and privacy door. To mid-ship is main saloon with fold-down convertible table/double berth, velour covered cushions, and shelves above the settee that allow for book and DVD storage. A hip-high bulkhead which forms the back of the settee separates the galley from the saloon. If you enter the boat via the forward entry, the galley is at the foot of the main ladder to starboard with the sinks nearest the companionway and the counter running athwartships. To port is a full length settee which can also be used as a single berth, behind which are deep storage lockers. Aft to port is the nav station with chart table, Norcold 12/120-volt refrigerator built in below, and mounted navigational equipment. Going through the passageway, a workbench is to port and double door access to the engine compartment and electrical panel to starboard. The aft stateroom has entries through the passageway and through its own companionway from the cockpit. Aft stateroom features include double berth nestled up against the stern of the boat, four door storage compartments on the port side, under bunk storage, bureau, dressing seat, hanging locker, and sunlight/escape hatch. En suite head includes marine toilet, handheld shower, stainless steel sink, hot and cold pressure water, small storage cabinet, and privacy door. Other interior features include CO2 sniffer, four overhead rod holders, Force 10 propane heater, teak sole in the main cabin, carpeting, polished fiberglass ceilings and walls, teak accents, curtains, fourteen opening ports, total three sunlight/escape hatches (forecabin, aft cabin, and galley), 12-volt light fixtures, 110-volt electrical outlets, and two lockable companionway doors.
Galley Equipment: Galley is equipped with Hillerange propane three plate stove/oven, Galaxy microwave, ten-cubic-foot top-loading cooler box, double stainless steel sink, hot and cold pressurized water, Formica counter tops, and above counter storage.
Electronic and Navigational Gear: The helm is equipped with pedestal steering, stainless steel steering wheel, hydraulic steering with emergency tiller, and gauge panel with RPM, water, oil, amp meter, and knot meter. Safety alarms are provided to warn against engine overheating, low oil, water temperature, and raw water flow. Electronic and navigational gear includes Teleflex compass, Garmin 188C GPS/plotter/sounder, Garmin 180 GPS/plotter/sounder, Garmin West Coast/Hawaii/Mexico map chip, Standard Horizon 180 GPS/plotter/sounder, Standard Horizon West Coast/Hawaii/Mexico map chip, SiTex video fish finder, Standard Horizon Eclipse VHF marine radio, Uniden 525 VHF marine radio with WAM, ICOM M802 single-side-band radio, Furuno 36-mile radar with closed array, Com Nav hydraulic autopilot, Navico wheel back-up autopilot, Vector waterproof loran, local charts, guides, and plotting tools.
Electrical/Gas/Plumbing: The boat is equipped with both 12-volt DC and 110-volt AC electrical system. Electrical features include three new AGM batteries, accessory panel, shore power inlet, 50’ ship-to-shore power cord, 20-amp alternator charging system, and 1500-watt inverter.
Gas power features include propane tank in vented locker and safety solenoid.
The boat is equipped with hot/cold pressurized freshwater system. Water/plumbing features include 170-gallon aluminum freshwater tank, 120-gallon fiberglass freshwater tank, 35-gallon plastic holding tank (aft head), 25-gallon collapsible holding tank (forward head), manual and deck pumpouts, manual bilge pump, two electric bilge pumps, bilge alarm, and 12-gallon AC/ engine operated hot water heater.
Hull and Deck Gear (Sails/Rigging): The boat is best described as a fin keel, sloop rigged blue water sail boat with 9,000-lb. cast fiberglassed internal ballast and wheel steering. The hull is built of fiberglass, and the decks are fiberglass with non-skid surfacing. Deck layout includes deck at bow, foredeck, narrow side decks, center cockpit, and aft deck over aft stateroom. Deck gear includes stainless steel bow rail, double lifelines with stainless steel stanchions, full length toe rails, stainless steel deck cleats, teak foredeck and aft deck underway grab rails, two Dorade boxes with vents, and stainless steel aft deck rail. The deep cockpit has L-shaped bench seating, raised captain’s seat, vinyl covered cushions, seat locker, and wash down cockpit. Sail inventory includes two mainsails (one plus spare), storm jib, 150% Genoa on roller furling, and ¾ oz. light weather headsail. Rigging and spars includes keel-stepped aluminum mast with single spreader, stainless steel 1” x 19” wire standing rigging, Navtec turnbuckles and terminals, and Shaefer 2100 headsail furler. Ground tackle includes two Lewmar #42 winches, Lewmar #16 aft winch, and two Lewmar #16 winches at mast. Anchor gear includes bow roller built into stemhead fitting, Lofrans double action electric windlass, forward chain locker (separated into port and starboard sides), two stainless steel hawse pipes, Bruce 44-lb bow anchor, 300’ of 5/16” high test chain, Danforth 35-lb bow anchor, 50’ of 5/16” high test chain, 300’ of ¾” nylon rode, Danforth 20-lb stern anchor, 50’ of 5/16” high test chain, and 200’ of 5/8” nylon rode. Safety gear includes four PFD’s, four fire extinguishers, flare kit, four docking lines, six fenders, air horn, two Type IV cushions, boarding ladder, lifesling, and fume alarm. Canvas inventory includes boom cover, full dodger with Bimini, new grab rail cover, new companionway cover, new forward hatch cover, and new cover for tender. The older canvas was new in 2002, and the new canvas was new in 2007 or 2008. Fishing and sports gear includes built in transom swim ladder, four exterior rod holders, and five interior rod holders. The boat completed haul out for service and bottom paint as of May 2008.
Equipment & Engine Details: Equipment includes inflatable Mercury 11’ inflatable dinghy. Dinghy features include inflatable keel, inflatable floor boards, oars, and storage cover (see canvas inventory).
Engine Details: Auxiliary power is provided by a 62 HP Perkins 4-154, 4-cylinder marine diesel inboard, with approximately 300 hours since rebuild. The boat cruises at 5.5 knots and reaches maximum speed of 7.5 knots. Other engine features include 138-gallon aluminum fuel tank, two large independent Racor 1000 fuel filters, 18 x 17 LH 3-blade prop, fresh water cooling, and 1.25” stainless steel shaft.
Remarks: Sailing is never better than when you share the experience with friends on a well equipped classic yacht. This boat completed delivery cruise from Port San Louis to Channel Islands Harbor in the summer of 2006. After delivery, the boat was inspected by a surveyor and found to be in excellent structural and cosmetic condition.
